About the Chef

Jonathan grew up here on the east coast just outside of Washington, D.C. in Sterling, Virginia, where both he and his twin brother who is also a professional chef, started their culinary journeys working weekends at local family-owned restaurants. He attended The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in culinary management. He has spent the last 5 years with Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants under the International Hotels Group (IHG) umbrella.

His past culinary positions include chef de cuisine for James Beard Award-winning Chef Allen Susser’s in Miami, executive chef at Andre Balazs properties in New York and executive chef at Jade Mountain Resort in St. Lucia. While Dearden was running the kitchen at Jade Mountain, the luxury hotel was recognized by Travel + Leisure as the top resort in the Caribbean, and #3 best resort in the world. Most recently, Jonathan has worked as the executive chef of Red Owl Tavern and Stratus Lounge located in the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Old City Philadelphia.

The grand opening of Patchwork brings the thrilling announcement of Executive Chef Jonathan Dearden whom throughout his career has won countless awards and achievements with appearances on ABC’s “The Chew,” Food Networks, “Chopped,” and “Beat Bobby Flay.” Dearden brings expertise and vast culinary knowledge to Patchwork with a focus on perfecting and reinventing American classics. “Patchwork is inspired by Mid-Atlantic ingredients that can be found in local farms and fisheries all inspired by the city of brotherly love,” said executive chef Jonathan Dearden. “I’m so excited to be a part of this launch team and have guests join us for a taste of Philly while exploring all this great city has to offer.”
